Area guide: Authentic Sydhavnen

Experience a neighbourhood full of contrast as old meets new. The newer part of Sydhavnen (South Port) offers modern architecture tightly connected to the water surrounding the area. The old offers vast green areas and a distinct historic working-class vibe.

Arrive stylishly by boat

While the Harbour bus is not the only way (you can go by the Metro system), it is arguably the most excellent way to conquer the new Sydhavnen.

Have lunch by the water

Common for both the new and old Sydhavnen is that many small businesses are driven with passion by passionate people. So, if you are looking for a delicious lunch or a drink, you are in safe hands here.

Enjoy the “blue” opportunities

The canals are an integral part of the city district's “blue” areas, and people take advantage of the water all year round. If you are particularly adventurous, you can rent a kayak and explore the harbour from the waterfront, or you can enjoy a refreshing swim at Sluseholmen Harbour Bath.

Seek out authenticity in old Sydhavnen

The original part of the neighbourhood offers much to explore. Of course, the streets ooze an unfashionable working-class atmosphere on paper, but try to explore further, and you will find gems that hint at how life in Copenhagen was in the past.

BaneGaarden

The hidden gem at the end of the railroad tracks. Old barns that used to house railway sleepers are now a gastronomic oasis and a hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.
